NotaryExamPro vs EZNotaryClass: California Notary Exam Prep (2026)

The short answer

We make NotaryExamPro, so read this with that in mind. Every competitor price and feature below comes from that company's own website, checked on October 6, 2026, and the links are at the bottom so you can check them yourself. Prices change, so confirm before you buy. EZNotaryClass sells a $79 online California notary course that the state accepts as the required 6-hour education. NotaryExamPro is not a course. It's exam practice that you add after or alongside a course. For a lot of people EZNotaryClass alone is enough: it covers the course requirement, includes practice tests, and refunds the class price if you fail the exam three times. Add NotaryExamPro if you want many more full-length timed practice exams, audio for every chapter, or a stronger guarantee before your first attempt. Together they cost $128, still less than the National Notary Association's $199 course on its own.

What EZNotaryClass does well

• It's one of the lower-priced approved 6-hour courses, and the price includes things other schools charge for, like a loan signing class and free renewal classes every 4 years while you keep your commission. • Video lessons with live chat suit people who like to watch rather than read. • It includes practice tests and a test-prep mini course, so you're not buying a course with no practice. • Its guarantee refunds the class price if you fail the state exam three times within two years. It doesn't cover the state's exam or retake fees. EZNotaryClass also advertises a 97% pass rate and a 4.9 Trustpilot rating. We couldn't verify those numbers, so we've left them out of the comparison.

What NotaryExamPro adds

• Much more full-length practice. Each practice exam matches the real exam's 45 questions and 1-hour limit, with new questions each time so your score reflects what you know rather than what you've memorized. • Audio for all 19 chapters, built from the California Notary Public Handbook and Government Code. • An AI tutor for the questions you'd otherwise search for, with the code section cited. • A guarantee that pays out after one failed attempt, not three, as long as you finished every chapter and scored 80% or higher on at least 3 practice exams. What it doesn't do: count toward the 6-hour course, give you video lessons, or teach loan signing. And it costs $49 on top of whatever course you take.

Which one should you pick?

• On a tight budget and comfortable with video: EZNotaryClass on its own, plus our free practice questions. • Want lots of timed practice before your first attempt: EZNotaryClass (or another approved course) plus NotaryExamPro. • Already finished your course and want practice only, or retaking after a fail: NotaryExamPro. A good way to decide is the free California notary practice exam: take it after your course. If you're well above passing, you probably don't need anything else.

California exam facts that apply either way

Whichever prep you choose, the state side of becoming a California notary is the same: • An approved 6-hour course is required for every new notary (3 hours for a renewal, but only while your current commission is still active). Your Proof of Completion is good for 2 years. • The exam is 45 multiple choice questions in 1 hour, closed book. 40 are scored and 5 are unscored test questions. • You need a scaled score of 70. CPS HR Consulting, which runs the exam, says a scaled score is not a percentage, so be wary of anyone quoting an exact number of questions you can miss. • The exam and application fee is $40, and a retake is $20. You can test at most once per calendar month. • After you pass, you get fingerprinted by Live Scan, then buy a $15,000 bond and file your oath with your county.
